“The most hated sort [of moneymaking], and with the greatest reason, is usury, which makes a gain out of money itself, and not from the natural use of it. For money was intended to be used in exchange, but not to increase at interest.

And this term ‘usury,’ which means the birth of money from money, is applied to the breeding of money, because the offspring resembles the parent. Wherefore of all modes of making money this is the most unnatural.” -- Aristotle

Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday hinted that the US may allow Ukraine to strike Russian territory with US-made missiles, which would risk provoking a major response from Moscow.

Blinken made the comments during a visit to Moldova and repeated a line that he’s said before about the issue, that the US doesn’t “encourage or enable” Ukrainian attacks inside Russia and that where to strike is ultimately up to Ukraine. But he added that the US would “adapt and adjust” his position on the battlefield.

U.S.: Russian Subs in Atlantic More Active Than Weve Seen Them in Years MikeRivero

Russia has increased its submarine presence in the Atlantic at a higher level than ever in recent years, the top U.S. officer overseeing operations in Europe said Wednesday, citing one of several examples contradicting conclusions that the military loyal to Russian President Vladimir Putin has been severely degraded by his war in Ukraine.

“The Russians have been more active than we’ve seen them in years,” Army Gen. Chris Cavoli, the top commander for NATO and U.S. military operations in Europe, told Congress on Wednesday of Moscow’s undersea capabilities.

In case of an attack, Russia will act ‘as the situation demands,’ and its response may be truly devastating, said Konstantin Gavrilov, head of Russia’s delegation to the Vienna talks on military security and arms control.

An auto ferry and a train ferry were damaged by fragments of downed missiles following Ukraine’s attack on infrastructure facilities in the Crimean port city of Kerch, Crimean Transport Minister Nikolay Lukashenko said.

"Two ferries - a car ferry and a train ferry - were damaged by missile fragments when an attack on transport infrastructure in the city of Kerch was being repelled. Window panels were damaged. No casualties among sailors or civilians were reported," he said in a statement.

U.S. considers allowing Ukraine to strike targets inside Russian territory with American weapons in major shift in the war MikeRivero

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has suggested the United States is contemplating allowing Ukraine to use American-supplied weapons to directly strike Russian territory, given the changing dynamics on the battlefield in Ukraine.

It's the first time a senior Biden administration official has indicated there could be a potential shift in policy.

French President Emmanuel Macron's idea to allow Kiev to launch strikes on Russian territory is insane and could lead to a world war, Balazs Hidveghi, a Hungarian MEP and former Hungarian parliamentarian, said.

"Macron allows Ukraine to use French missiles to strike inside Russia. Yet another step towards a world war. We must stop this madness!" he posted on messaging platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

"In the European elections we must vote for leaders who seek peace," the MEP blogged, referring to the elections to the European Parliament due on June 6-9.

Diverse European voices are desperately warning that with the Ukraine project spiralling towards débacle, a humiliated West is left with little choice but to escalate drastically, and bring NATO -- in some form, whether limited or not -- into the fight.

The former British (Conservative) MP Andrew Bridgen states that this strategic shift (whose speed caught the Europeans unawares), is forcing Europe to face war with Russia.
